HTC Evo 4G is a Blockbuster for Sprint

Despite some initial glitches, HTC’s Evo phone has turned into a best-seller for Sprint. The first 4G smartphone running Google’s Android operating system

…Despite some initial glitches, HTC’s Evo phone has turned into a best-seller for Sprint. The first 4G smartphone running Google’s Android operating system sold three times more on the day of its launch than Sprint’s earlier hits, the Samsung Instinct and Palm Pre did over their first three days combined.
The HTC Evo is so hot that it has led to temporary shortages at some of Sprint’s stores across the U.S., says the wireless carrier.
HTC EVO 4G has more than lived up to our expectations that it would be one of the most anticipated technology products of the year, Kevin Packingham, senior vice president of product development for Sprint said in a statement. We are working closely with our partners at HTC to increase the supply and get EVO 4G into the hands of everyone who wants one as quickly as possible.
However, Sprint hasn’t given out details on the number of Evos sold.
And in what seems like a strange coincidence (or not), Sprint’s HTC Evo sales announcement mirrors what the carrier said about the Palm…

Battle of the Mobile Era Will Google Android Prevail -TW Tec

Google has been gaining momentum. Their Android operating system has increased its presence in the smart phone market dramatically. In the first quarter of this year Android phones had 28 percent of the market. This is very significant as it shows the Android system is catching on and being accepted by consumers and cell phone carriers.

…HTC Google Nexus One. In addition to the support from Verizon wireless which has been heavily promoting android based smart phones to consumers. Just released in the past month is the HTC Droid Incredible which was the supercharged replacement phone for the Nexus One which was scheduled to go to Verizon, this was later squashed. This phone is definitely going to be a contributing factor in the coming quarters. As we are in the cell phone business we can confirm that the Incredible is selling at a rate close to the Motorola Droid’s release. (Based on TechieWarehouse.com Accessory Sales Data).
Who will end up dominating the smart phone market this year. There are many possible factors including talks of the new Apple iPhone being released later this year, possibilities of the Apple iPhone going to Verizon, BlackBerry consistency producing addicting dependable devices, and Google quest for acceptance and growth. Google’s Android takes No 2 spot from iPhone in U.S.

Google Inc displaced iPhone maker Apple Inc to become the second most popular provider of smartphone software in the United States during the first quarter, the latest sign of the increasing competition in the fast-growing mobile market.

…T wireless network in the United States, dropped to third place as its share of the smartphone operating system market remained flat quarter-over-quarter at 21 percent.Unlike Apple, Google offers its Android software to other phone-makers. In April, Google said a dozen vendors currently offer 34 different devices that feature the Android software.NPD analyst Ross Rubin said the strong showing of Android phones during the first quarter owed to promotions by Verizon Wireless, which he said has expanded its buy-one-get-one offer. Verizon Wireless is a venture of Verizon Communications Inc and Vodafone Group Plc.”As in the past, carrier distribution and promotion have played a crucial role in determining smartphone market share,” Rubin said in a statement. While the Android operating system is gaining momentum in the market, Google has had less luck with its Nexus One phone, the Android-based device it designed in close collaboration with HTC. Google sells directly to consumers from its website.Sprint said the…

Report: Google Android surpasses iPhone in U.S.

Google’s Android operating system edged out Apple’s iPhone operating system for the No. 2 spot in the U.S. consumer smartphone market in the first quarter of 2010, research firm NPD Group reported Monday.

…T is perfect for the others. Another spot that’s a dead zone for Verizon is perfect for the others. Etc. So to pretend that your experience says ANYTHING about the overall dependability or coverage of networks is ignorant at the very best. Like this 2 people like this comment
by davidmcelroy_dotmac May 10, 2010 12:51 PM PDT Those who are celebrating for Android — or pretending that this means some unified win for Linux in a way that matters — are going to be disappointed in the long run. If you combine all the different versions of Android on all the various vendors, yes, Android is doing well. It’s also going to continue to do well, because it does cost phone-makers anything and it’s pretty good. However, what people are missing is that the different phones that are massed together under Android aren’t REALLY the same thing. They run different versions of Android that don’t allow them to have the same capabilities. They don’t even look the same. (Compare the Sense UI of HTC to the Android UI of…

Patent fights could change Google’s Android pitch

One of the big selling points for Google’s Android software is that it’s free. However, with Apple and Microsoft’s recent patent moves against HTC, that might be changing. Read this blog post by Ina Fried on Wireless.

…”a possible threat to Apple’s and Microsoft’s mobile ambitions.”A possible threat is a massive understatement. The now exponential growth of the Android ecosystem is now in full swing. The number of new applications appearing in the Android Market daily is without precedent. Android threatens to annihilate Microsoft’s evaporating share in the mobile market and certainly put a big dent in Apple’s. A threat? You bet it is!”Google–the indirect target”You mean the real target. The multiple actions being taken against HTC are what’s known as a shakedown.”Android partners may be wondering if one of the main selling points for Android–that it costs handset makers nothing–is becoming less of an advantage… the cost of what implementing (an) OS really is and handset vendors’ willingness to settle patent claims or go through the hassle of the courts,” Gartenberg wrote. If Android partners have to account for the cost of defending themselves against patent claims or making licensing payments as part of the cost of…
