Google I/O Schedule Released | Android Messages

Tim Bray just tweeted a link to the 2010 Google I/O schedule for May 19th and 20th. Two of the more interesting Android-related sessions

…to write Android games, and the traits of the most popular games on Market.

And the session that seems to be making an attempt to tackle at least some facets of the fragmentation issue:
One of Android’s strengths is its flexibility to run on a wide variety of devices. In this session, we will explore the facilities the Android resource system provides to developers to make supporting many devices from one application binary easier, as well as common pitfalls. In addition to hardware heterogeneity, more than one version of Android may exist in the wild at any given time. We will go over strategies for providing cross-version compatibility.

An interesting tidbit pointed out by Bray in his tweet are several TBA Android sessions for the end of Thursday May 20th. It could mean they just haven’t sorted out the exact details, but I’m also willing to bet that at least one of these sessions will be aimed at revealing some brand new, top-secret information, such as, I don’t know, maybe Android 2.2.
For the full…

Google To Sell Android Toys? | Android Messages

I woke up this morning and found something that made me smile (just like I did with these nice Korean Android commercials yesterday): an assortment of cool

…fist in the air we’ve become accustomed to, there were a good handful of unique and creepy takes on the iconic figure.

Eager to figure out where we could snatch some of these up for a giveaway, our own Rob Jackson contacted DKE Toys a wholesale supplier to see if we could purchase a few sets. The response was unfortunate:
I am sure most of you know already but if not, we did receive about 150 boxes but could barely satisfy the demand from our regular customers.

The one glimmer of hope we did extract, though, was that Google will be selling these toys themselves at some point.
While more of the toys will be made, Google will be the exclusive retailer from now on and there will be no more wholesale. If anything else develops or there are any changes I will email you all again.

So we missed out on the here and now, but thankfully Google will adopt these cute little creatures themselves to provide to the Android-loving faithful. I’m not sure if they’ll sell them separately or in the box collection pictured…

Android Usage Increased 200% Over Past Three Months

According to new data from ChangeWave Research, both usage and consumer sentiment towards Google’s mobile operating system Android has increased over the past several months.

…While this seems like promising news for Android, let’s not forget the recent figures regarding sales of the Nexus One, Google’s self-sold Android smartphone. Once positioned as a potential “iPhone killer,” the N1’s first week sales fell short of expectations with just 20,000 sold since its January 5th launch date. So while consumer sentiment may be on the rise regarding the Android OS, the mobile OS still has quite a ways to go before it catches up with the iPhone 3GS (which, incidentally, sold 1.6 million devices in its first week).

However, positioning the N1 against the iPhone isn’t really a valid comparison -the N1 is only one of many Android handsets on the market today. Other Android-enabled phones like the myTouch 3G and the Droid also have significant and growing install bases. Combined, the overall marketshare for Android is on the rise. This growth is benefitting both Motorola and HTC, each who offer a version of the Droid smartphone. (HTC is also the maker of the N1). Since September, Motorola…
