Google Plans To Make $10 Billion A Year From Mobile

In the second quarter of 2010, Google posted revenues $5.1 billion with advertising accounting for 96% of its revenues, 66% of its total revenue. Not intending to rely on traditional search advertising, Google is said to be readying a huge push into mobile with the aim of securing revenues of $10 billion a year with the help of its Android OS

…Think about it, that’s just $10 per Android user. With Google setting its sights on recommendation engines, building Admob (its mobile advertising platform) and incorporating location-based advertising, it certainly could achieve that.
I can’t see Google amassing a billion Android users just yet though.
Google will undoubtedly find new ways to monetize its mobile offerings, whilst keeping its operating system free for all. Although one billion Android users is a tough expectation, the smartphone market continues to experience huge growth and an increasing number of manufacturers looking to the…

5 Big Reasons Why Android Developers Don’t Make Money

Android developers make 50x less money than iPhone developers. Read this article to find out why that is, and how Google can fix it.

…Distributing the apps for free meant a lot more people could try them and buy stuff from inside the app.
Android absolutely needs this in order to lure more developers to their platform and reward them in a better way. After all why spend the amount of time building an Android app when you can make 50x more on the iphone platform. For almost all developers, the choice is easy, and they build Android apps as an afterthought. This is why the same app on Android is usually of lower quality than the one on iphone.
Paypal has announced libraries for in-app purchases for Android. However, I’m sure developers would prefer a more integrated way of getting users pay with one click, perhaps with a Google Checkout account. This would also mean a higher sign-up rate for its Google Checkout business, which they’ve been ignoring lately.
2. Enabling paid apps in all countries

For some reason, Google is not enabling paid apps in too many countries, and they are moving extremely so to do it. I’m not sure if this is because…

iOS vs Android | TheTechJournal.com

Google’s release of Android OS 2.2 Froyo also fueled competitive heat directed at iPhone, although Apple continued selling a record number of iPhones in the first calendar quarter of 2010, and largely focused attention on the new iPad in the second quarter. With Apple now gearing up for the launch of iPhone 4.

…of all impressions.

Apple has been on a tear over the last decade in introducing products that competitors (including much larger, more experienced, and formerly entrenched companies) haven’t been able to match. For nearly ten years of iPod introductions, Apple continually grew with little effective competition from Sony and Microsoft, largely creating the market for hard drive based MP3 players and subsequently taking over the flash memory MP3 player market before releasing the iPod touch, which has no real competition from anyone. The iPhone and iPad have followed similar trajectories, facing a series of ineffectual killers that didn’t even make a dent in Apple’s recession-busting sales records.
One difficulty in making comparison between Apple’s smartphone and alternatives running Android is that they’re not the same thing. One can compare iPhone hardware features against an Android model, for example, but the value of iPhone 4 isn’t just its hardware, it’s the integration of its hardware paired with the…

Android Gets a Build-Your-Own-App App

Got an idea for a smartphone app? If you’ve got an Android phone you might be able to build it yourself, thanks to App Inventor for Android, a new Google Labs program for Windows, OS X, and Linux that’s designed to make building Android programs as easy as piecing blocks together.

…App Inventor is in closed beta at the moment, and Google says it’ll let folks in “soon” — you can sign up here. As you’ll see if you fill out the sign-up form, Google sees the program as an educational tool of particular interest to teachers and students.
It’s an exciting idea that’s more than slightly reminiscent of HyperCard, the brilliant visual programming tool that was a big deal on the Mac more than twenty years ago, and which is missed to this day. HyperCard or something similar would be a boon on the iPhone — even Steve Jobs has says he thinks so, although Apple apparently doesn’t have any interest in building such an application itself, and new restrictions in the iOS developer agreement prevent apps developed with the HyperCard-like RunRev from being distributed on the App Store.
(More and more, I think that the surface similarities between Android and iOS are less interesting than the fundamental differences in emphasis and philosophy — and the more different the two OSes get, the more…

Google App Inventor: Now Anyone Can Create an Android App

Google is launching a new tool on Monday that lets anyone create an app for Android phones. Google App Inventor claims to enable non-coders to develop complete, working Android apps by connecting a series of “blocks”. Google has been testing App Inventor in schools for a year, reports the NYTimes.

…of apps in the android marketplace? NA | Create Your First WebsiteSo can awesome apps be made with this tool, or only basic ones, like the one shown in the video? Manish PrabhuneThere is something like that for iPhone too. Check http://appliya-studio.com/en/And there is a lot of clutter on the app store too!. many which I downloaded just to find out that it is nothing in real value. james_roeI seem to recall that SQL was originally invented for non-developers as well, look at how well that’s turned out. Matt WolfgangThis is really cool. It seems pretty simple now, but I suspect that as the platform develops there will be more blocks created by Google as well as user-created blocks that will perform more advanced tasks, allow web access, feeds, etc. jsinkeywestSounded HOT until the we will get back to you Thanks for signing up :( BUZZKILL :) ditch these DISQUS comments also Thanks :) SquareWheelI like Disqus, myself. Fragmentation is Dying - Android 2.1 runs on 50% of Devices

The efforts of Google to slow down the Fragmentation seems to be working now. A recent report shows that Android 2.1 a.k.a. Eclair leads the market with more than 50% of share.

…The best thing about this report is that the leader is the latest Android - Eclair, ofcourse don’t expect Froyo to lead, its hardly a month since its release. Although we are still looking at three versions governing the Android active user market, just compare them with the previous data result, the figures have changed significantly.
After the release of Android 2.1, Google took nearly 5 months for the next release, with the basic aim to stop confusing Application developers. The 4 quick releases:

Android 1.6 on 15th September
Android 2.0 on 26th October
Android 2.0.1 on 3rd December
Android 2.1 in 12th January

were a big reason for Android…

Your Browser in Five Years

The next big computing platform won’t be Apple’s Mac OS, Google’s Android, or Microsoft’s Windows. It’s already here–and it’s the Web.

…What will your Web browser look like in 2015? Five years doesn’t always bring dramatic change to some technologies–today’s desktop PC, for instance, isn’t that different from its 2005 predecessor–but browsers are undergoing major changes that will alter our day-to-day computing lives.
Not only will Web browsers become commonplace in cars, but they’ll also incorporate voice recognition, text-to-speech, and touchless gesture controls for applications where keypads, touchpads, and even touchscreens can be either inconvenient (smartphones) or downright dangerous (when driving). Browsers will stream Internet radio to our cars, and perhaps even adopt a 3D-style interface–only without the clunky glasses.
“You’re going to see tremendous innovation in the browser space in the coming years,” says Linus Upson, Google’s vice president of engineering. “We really want the Web as a platform to get to the point where you can do anything on the Web that you can do on Windows, the Mac, or the iPhone.”
Google…
