Google’s App Inventor Helps You Visually Create Android Apps

I mean the App inventor enables users to drag and drop blocks of code, which are shown as graphic images and representing different smart phone capabilities. These blocks are created for just about everything you wish to do with an Android phone. But we have to wait because Google labs will be granting access to App Inventor over the coming weeks.

…App inventor from Google Labs is a great new and free tool, which makes life easier of programmers, non-programmers, professionals and students to create mobile applications for Android powered devices. This app inventor requires Zero programming knowledge, because instead of writing code you visually design the way app will look, you can use blocks to specify the app’s behavior.I mean the App inventor enables users to drag and drop blocks of code, which are shown as graphic images and representing different smart phone capabilities. These blocks are created for just about everything you wish to do with an Android phone, as well as blocks for doing programming-like stuff, blocks to store information, blocks for repeating actions, and blocks to perform actions under certain conditions. There are even blocks to talk to services like Twitter and more.App inventor will let you create apps that use advance feature like Sending or receiving SMS or working with GPS, App Inventor provides access to a GPS-location…

Google’s App Inventor will lead to an app explosion

The power of you. A little back of the napkin here: If only 1% of Android phone buyers decide to create only one application, that means that 1600 (Google says 160,000 Android devices activated/day) more Android apps will be created every day. That means that over half a million additional apps could be created every year. That is five times

No matter what city you are living in, finding a parking spot can be a real frustration and time waster.

Steve Jobs Email: "Not A Chance" Google Is Leapfrogging Us

Steve Jobs’ official response to people that think Android is better than the iPhone.

…Steve Jobs is firing off one-line emails this weekend addressing Google’s big announcements from this week.
One email to Steve asked him what he thought of Gizmodo saying Google had leapfrogged Apple with the release of the new Android operating system. Steve’s response, “Not a chance.”
Another emailer (via Mac Rumors) asked if Google was showing up Apple with its developer conference and if Apple had big announcements for WWDC. Steve’s response, “You won’t be disappointed.”
The funny thing about these responses is that they could be canned quotes from a PR person. But because they’re coming from Steve (supposedly) they seem much more exciting.
WWDC is just a few weeks away. Google had its chance to poke fun at Apple and show off its newest operating system. Let’s see what Apple hits back with.

Google unveils Froya for Android 2.2

Google seems set to announce the next version of their Android operating system, deliciously dubbed Froyo (frozen yogurt) at the Google IO conference today.

…The exciting and terrifying thing about Google is that you never know what they re going to do (and give away free) next. Last time it was Navigation, and TomTom is likely still reeling. This time it could be free cell service for everyone in Rhode Island. Who knows?! My official prediction is up as part of the Android Central Round Table. They ve also got a ton of coverage from yesterday, which included the announcement of the VP8 video codec being released open source and freely licensed as part of their WebM initiative (which includes the MKV container and Ogg Vorbis audio codec), a Chrome Web Store, Adobe s HTML5 exporter for Dreamweaver, Google s foray into the 10 TV experience with Clicker.tv, and more. Here are some more highlights, but join Phil and crew for all the live fun and we ll be back with our thoughts later:…

Google Android Tablet?

Rumors suggest Google will release the Android tablet at its I/O conference next week in San Francisco. Of course this is pure speculation, but there are a few facts

…Direct-response advertising is a straightforward proposition. If a placement does not produce sales, cut it and move the money elsewhere. It is very black and white. Meanwhile, brand advertising is filled with shades of gray. The majority of brand advertisers don’t directly sell products on Web sites. They……

Any urbanite knows that directions aren’t created equally. Pedestrians can usually go wherever their feet can take them, but road traffic has to contend with hated one-way streets. Don’t even get us started on cyclists. Luckily for bike riders toting Android phones in their messenger bags, a few days after Google added directions specifically for cyclists, the Maps team rolled biking guidance into the Android app.

Will charting a cycle route keep down the number of bike accidents? We hope so.

Now cyclists who download the updated Google Maps 4.2 application from the Android Market can find optimal routes for their two-wheelers–both in the directions module and as a map layer that color codes different types of bike-friendly roads and paths. Just be forewarned that the maps and directions are in beta mode, and that they’re currently operational in the U.S. only, and only for phones running version 1.6 and above of the Android operating system.
In addition to…
