5 Big Reasons Why Android Developers Don’t Make Money

Android developers make 50x less money than iPhone developers. Read this article to find out why that is, and how Google can fix it.

…Distributing the apps for free meant a lot more people could try them and buy stuff from inside the app.
Android absolutely needs this in order to lure more developers to their platform and reward them in a better way. After all why spend the amount of time building an Android app when you can make 50x more on the iphone platform. For almost all developers, the choice is easy, and they build Android apps as an afterthought. This is why the same app on Android is usually of lower quality than the one on iphone.
Paypal has announced libraries for in-app purchases for Android. However, I’m sure developers would prefer a more integrated way of getting users pay with one click, perhaps with a Google Checkout account. This would also mean a higher sign-up rate for its Google Checkout business, which they’ve been ignoring lately.
2. Enabling paid apps in all countries

For some reason, Google is not enabling paid apps in too many countries, and they are moving extremely so to do it. I’m not sure if this is because…

…Apple and Google ever since the introduction of android have been at each others throats, it’s no secret the two companies don’t like each other very much these days. Heres an interesting bit of information according to the search giant search engine, Google loves apple and hates apple at the same time.
Google thinks Apple:
Is bigger then Microsoft (That’s up for debate)
Is killing the tech sector (LOL)
Is a cult (very true)
Is big brother (coming from Google that’s a complement)
Is the new Microsoft (ROFL)
Is Overrated (heh)
Is the devil (do they mean Steve Jobs?)
Is awesome (Google do use mostly macs in their offices)
Is the best (it’s a love hate relationship)
Is down (????)
As you can see google seems to love and hate apple, these two corporate giants are officially frenemies.

Android’s ascent in China might not elevate Google

Android’s growing popularity in China may not be a victory for Google, because Chinese mobile industry has created its own fork of the platform that cuts out Google as the middle man.

…Like most Linux-based mobile platforms, Android is not entirely open source. The core operating system consists of the GPL-licensed Linux kernel and an Apache-licensed middleware and userspace stack. Several key components at the higher levels of the platform particularly the Android market and several other pieces of Google-branded software are proprietary. Device makers that want to use include those components on their products have to commercially license the software from Google.

In our recent in-depth coverage of the Android fragmentation issue, we explained that Google uses its ownership of the Android Market as leverage to ensure interoperability between Android devices and to encourage a certain degree of consistency. In addition to paying licensing fees, Android Market licensees must also demonstrate that their products meet the strict requirements of Google’s compatibility specification.

As the sole arbiter of Android’s dominant application delivery channel, Google has enormous control over the…

iOS vs Android | TheTechJournal.com

Google’s release of Android OS 2.2 Froyo also fueled competitive heat directed at iPhone, although Apple continued selling a record number of iPhones in the first calendar quarter of 2010, and largely focused attention on the new iPad in the second quarter. With Apple now gearing up for the launch of iPhone 4.

…of all impressions.

Apple has been on a tear over the last decade in introducing products that competitors (including much larger, more experienced, and formerly entrenched companies) haven’t been able to match. For nearly ten years of iPod introductions, Apple continually grew with little effective competition from Sony and Microsoft, largely creating the market for hard drive based MP3 players and subsequently taking over the flash memory MP3 player market before releasing the iPod touch, which has no real competition from anyone. The iPhone and iPad have followed similar trajectories, facing a series of ineffectual killers that didn’t even make a dent in Apple’s recession-busting sales records.
One difficulty in making comparison between Apple’s smartphone and alternatives running Android is that they’re not the same thing. One can compare iPhone hardware features against an Android model, for example, but the value of iPhone 4 isn’t just its hardware, it’s the integration of its hardware paired with the…

Are Professional Mobile Developers In Danger Of Extinction?

The mobile market is hot, with Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android vying for market share. Each of these markets like to brag about something they share in common – the apps available on each platform. The market is so competitive that some of the players aren’t content to attract devs on the strength of their market and available SDK tools alone.

…s role is to create the user experience. And like the teacher, the developer has to take the information and make it interesting and stimulating to the user. By keeping abreast of the latest SDK changes on presentable interfaces, the developer knows what is available to make the experience pleasurable and practical for the end user.
Without the developer being present, the subject matter expert would no doubt be happy with presenting their wealth of information to the user in the most convenient way they could find. After all, they have buses to drive and nuclear plants to manage. You should not expect the average empowered user to go beyond what a generic tool gives them to create an app.
Beyond the mechanics of the app, you should probably expect a subject matter expert to speak in subject matter terms. For example, the nuclear power manager may use a lot of terms that would all but alienate the casual user wanting to learn more about a nuclear plant by downloading an app. So, is there no way that a…

Google Releasing DIY "App Inventor"- App Creation

Ever wanted to become an Android developer and write your own app, but felt overwhelmed by programming language? Well, Google heard your cries! As of today, Google is releasing a do-it-yourself application creation tool, called App Inventor for Android. The beta of App Inventor should be available publicly as early as today!

…Google considers App Inventor a comprehensive tool capable of creating anything you could think of, from maze and Whackamole games to apps utilizing the accelerometer, from educational quiz games using text-to-speech to apps utilizing GPS services.

And the most fascinating part about App Inventor is that it requires no knowledge of programming! Google Labs has prepared for you a handy UI, on which you can build your apps with ease. The first test users included sixth graders, high school girls, nursing students, and college undergrads (who weren’t computer science majors). And supposedly, all of these demographics were able to develop apps with ease. How does it work? You’ll be basically dragging and dropping “blocks”. Google explains how “blocks” are the cornerstone of App Inventor:…

Google Open Spot

Open Spot, launched by Google, allows all Android (2.0 and up) users to search for unclaimed spaces marked by Open Spot users, as well as mark their own should they leave a spot

…Open Spot, launched by Google, allows all Android (2.0 and up) users to search for unclaimed spaces marked by Open Spot users, as well as mark their own should they leave a spot. While initiatives such as this have been tried before, this is the first one that is backed by such a large user base. Once spots are marked, they are color coded based on how long ago they were marked. While the app is free, it does not come with features such as notes, which would allow users to mark a spot as metered, free, or permit parking. The success of such an app depends entirely on user usage, so if you are a frequent city driver make it a habit to mark your parking spot when you leave. You never know, this app could save you an hour of driving in circles looking for a spot one day!

Android 2.2 comes to the T-Mobile G1

Early adopters of the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream/Magic) can now have the first fully-functioning build of CyanogenMod 6, which is based on Google’s Froyo (Android 2.2).

…Early adopters of the T-Mobile G1 (HTC Dream/Magic) can now have the first fully-functioning build of CyanogenMod 6, which is based on Google’s Froyo (Android 2.2). Cyanogen’s rooted copy of Android 2.2 seems to have nearly all the bells and whistles of the actual version with the exception of Flash 10.1. While the majority of the software works without a hitch, converters are reporting errors when attempting to access the Android Marketplace from their phones. In addition, the rooting process can often lead to the bricking of your phone if you are not careful.
