NASA Launches Google Phones Into Space as Cheap Satellites

What happens when NASA geeks hangout with Google employees? Well, they duct tape their Android-based phone to a space rocket and blast it 28,000 feet into the air. Duh!

…”Today’s satellites are the size of Greyhound buses,” Atchison told Wired. “But I believe they are going to get smaller and more frequently deployed. This is a first-step effort.”

It is worth noting that 90-percent of the NexusOne’s weight is due to the screen and the battery. If mobile phone components are used for satellite technology, these would not be included. The weight comparison alone would be a huge fuel savings. And it is no secret that NASA is definitely coupon-clipping these days.

Mobile phone-sized satellites would definitely produce a lot less space junk then their current counterparts. But this also means any hobbyists with a few thousand bucks could deploy a satellite. However, if NASA is successful with converting mobile phones into satellites, it will be an interesting spin on “there’s an app for that.”

I welcome the iSatellite! Just don’t hold it wrong.

Gingerbread’s rumours denied by Android’s Tech Lead

“Android 3.0, releasing in mid-oct, will need at least 1GHz processor, 512 MB RAM, a display with 1280×760 resolution”. This recent news has created a lot of buzz among Android fans. If you see carefully, hardly any phones today meet such specs. So, is Google going to alienate most of the Eclair/Froyo running phones

In a tweet, Dan Morrill, Android opensource and compatibility Tech lead, declared that the news is made up.
This news first surfaced in a Russian podcast, Digestiv, where Mobile-review’s Eldar Murtazin told about these Gingerbread updates. Although its not even sure that its Android 3.0 which is said to be released in October this year. Its just an upcoming release, who knows, it could be Android 2.3 or something else. There is no official announcement as of now.
