Microsoft is Working to Bring Bing Application to Android

There has always been a huge rivality between Microsoft and Google. As you know, Microsoft has been a developer of operating systems for a long time. After a

…s no competition. Speaking of competition, Bing is on a third place as a search engine just behind Google and Yahoo.
As you surely know, Microsoft is working on mobile operating systems as well and they are all using Bing search engine. Interesting this is that Bing search application is available on iOS and from the recent news, we find out that there will be Bing app for Android OS. Microsoft wants to keep its search engine available to all its users on different platforms and operating systems so this move was expected. Android OS is ranked as the second most popular mobile operating system in the United States and since it has millions of users…

The Nexus One Android Phone Discontinued

Google has some really bad news for those of you who still want to get your hands on a Nexus One phone. The last shipment is being sold off now, and once the stocks are out, there will be no more new Nexus One phones available for customers in the US.

…s conservative approach to marketing the phone, which meant that only a fraction of the $100 million ad campaign for the Droid, was spent for making people aware of the Nexus.

Google followed a direct-to-consumer sales policy, which despite being novel, simply did not have the mass reach or appeal needed to take phone sales through the roof.

So, not surprisingly there was not much hoopla surrounding the official blog post where Google announced the demise of the Nexus One in the US. It would be fair to say that the phone was popular among the geeks, but majority of the not so technically inclined people, did not really get to grips with the concept of an unlocked smartphone.
While the curtains have been drawn without much fanfare, one thing is for sure that this was a fine device and certainly worth a buy while it was available. The Android 2.2 OS update made it even better. So, in hindsight it would be interesting to see what would have been the fate of the Nexus One, had Google flexed its marketing…

Are Professional Mobile Developers In Danger Of Extinction?

The mobile market is hot, with Apple’s iPhone and Google’s Android vying for market share. Each of these markets like to brag about something they share in common – the apps available on each platform. The market is so competitive that some of the players aren’t content to attract devs on the strength of their market and available SDK tools alone.

…s role is to create the user experience. And like the teacher, the developer has to take the information and make it interesting and stimulating to the user. By keeping abreast of the latest SDK changes on presentable interfaces, the developer knows what is available to make the experience pleasurable and practical for the end user.
Without the developer being present, the subject matter expert would no doubt be happy with presenting their wealth of information to the user in the most convenient way they could find. After all, they have buses to drive and nuclear plants to manage. You should not expect the average empowered user to go beyond what a generic tool gives them to create an app.
Beyond the mechanics of the app, you should probably expect a subject matter expert to speak in subject matter terms. For example, the nuclear power manager may use a lot of terms that would all but alienate the casual user wanting to learn more about a nuclear plant by downloading an app. So, is there no way that a…

Google demos codeless Android development tool for students

Google has created a browser-based visual development tool that allows users to build Android applications without having to write a single line of code.

…Google has announced a new browser-based visual development tool called App Inventor that allows users to create Android applications without having to write any code. It appears to be aimed primarily at students.

App Inventor enables user interface design with a simple drag-and-drop layout system. The behavior of the user interface elements can be programmed via a visual development system that the user manipulates by organizing blocks with specific programming characteristics into various structures. The blocks can be dragged around and snapped into each other to form relatively sophisticated programs. This aspect of App Inventor is based on Scratch, an MIT visual programming language.

The compiler that translates the blocks into Android bytecode is built on top of the GNU Kawa framework, which provides a Scheme-based intermediate language. It’s worth noting that Kawa can also be used standalone to build entire Android applications with Scheme.

We were not able to test App Inventor ourselves because it…

Larry Page Calls Steve Jobs A Liar

Steve Jobs saying he was surprised by Android : Google founder Larry Page says Steve Jobs is rewriting history. Larry Page was responding to Steve Jobs assertion during D8 that he just woke up one day and suddenly Google was making a smartphone. He was also responding to allegations from Steve Jobs that Google ruined the companies relationship

…Google founder Larry Page says Steve Jobs is “rewriting history” when it comes to the iPhone-Android rivalry.
Speaking with reporters at Sun Valley, Larry Page said:
“We had been working on Android a very long time, with the notion of producing phones that are Internet enabled and have good browsers and all that because that did not exist in the marketplace…I think that characterization of us entering after is not really reasonable.”
Larry Page was responding to Steve Jobs’ assertion during D8 that he just woke up one day and suddenly Google was making a smartphone. He was also responding to allegations from Steve Jobs that Google ruined the companies’ relationship by getting into the smartphone business.
(As if Apple is the only company that should be allowed to make a smartphone.)

Ars reviews Android 2.2 on the Nexus One (screens)

The new version of Google’s Android mobile operating system brings some significant new features and performance enhancements. Ars takes a close hands-on look at Android 2.2 in this in-depth review…

…When the feature was announced at Google I/O, I stopped updating applications on my Nexus One and decided to wait for Froyo’s batch update feature. By the time I got Froyo this week, I had 22 applications in need of updates. This gave me a good opportunity to exercise the feature. It downloads and installs the updates in parallel, displaying progress bars in the notification slider that allow the user to monitor the progress of individual applications.

Left: A batch update displayed in the Android notification slider, Right: Multiple apps downloading simultaneously during a batch update

Two of the applications failed to download (22 at once was a bit too much for my 3G connection) and two of them had to be updated manually due to permission changes. To update the two that failed, I just had to hit the “Update all” button again after the first batch update was finished. For the two that required manual updates, I had to go through the normal application update process….

Your Browser in Five Years

The next big computing platform won’t be Apple’s Mac OS, Google’s Android, or Microsoft’s Windows. It’s already here–and it’s the Web.

…What will your Web browser look like in 2015? Five years doesn’t always bring dramatic change to some technologies–today’s desktop PC, for instance, isn’t that different from its 2005 predecessor–but browsers are undergoing major changes that will alter our day-to-day computing lives.
Not only will Web browsers become commonplace in cars, but they’ll also incorporate voice recognition, text-to-speech, and touchless gesture controls for applications where keypads, touchpads, and even touchscreens can be either inconvenient (smartphones) or downright dangerous (when driving). Browsers will stream Internet radio to our cars, and perhaps even adopt a 3D-style interface–only without the clunky glasses.
“You’re going to see tremendous innovation in the browser space in the coming years,” says Linus Upson, Google’s vice president of engineering. “We really want the Web as a platform to get to the point where you can do anything on the Web that you can do on Windows, the Mac, or the iPhone.”
Google…
