Google targeting Apple iPad with Chrome tablet?

We all know that Android Linux-powered tablets are on their way, but did anyone think Google itself might get into the iPad space? Well, it looks like they are.

…After those nuggets of news, everything else that’s been written about the Google Chrome tablet has been pure speculation. Yet I can believe this core of the story. Google already worked with HTC to deliver one of the first Android smartphones: the currently developer-only Nexus one.
On the carrier side, everyone who pays any attention to telephone company business-buddy relationships knows that Verizon and Google have been working closely together since the announcement of their net neutrality plan. So sure, the business relationships to make a Chrome tablet a reality are in place.
Besides, I think Google wants to jump-start the Android/Chrome tablet market. The very first Android tablets, like the Augsen GenTouch78, have been less than impressive. Just the very hint that Google may be making an iPad competitor already has buzz going.
That last part may also be important in its own right. Lately, Apple and Google have been getting along like cats and dogs. I think Google would be very, very one more…

Google: The search party is over - Fortune Tech

Yes, the company is still growing at rates that would be the envy of the rest of the Fortune 500. But its core business is slowing, its stock is down, its Android mobile platform generates scant revenue, and competition (hello, Facebook) is fierce. Can Google find its footing in this brave new world?

Google releases App Inventor for Android

Google has unleashed a new tool for Android application creation cleverly named “App Inventor.” The new, web-based tool uses an MIT-created Open Block programming interface to provide easy visual queues to buttons, actions, and more. The new tool is designed to open Android programming to more people and be “simple to use,

Google’s App Inventor will lead to an app explosion

The power of you. A little back of the napkin here: If only 1% of Android phone buyers decide to create only one application, that means that 1600 (Google says 160,000 Android devices activated/day) more Android apps will be created every day. That means that over half a million additional apps could be created every year. That is five times

Android still has the advantage over Apples iOS4 and iPhone

Google’s Android platform can easily top Apple’s new iOS 4 and the iPhone 4.

…T, users are stuck with the carrier. And dropped calls. Android phones on the other hand, are available on virtually every major network in the US and the rest of the World.
What Android needs to improve to keep its momentum
Android isn’t perfect, and while it’s capable of beating the iPhone 4, it’ll need to improve on a number of areas. Firstly, Android needs to even out the bumps it has suffered along the road, and the upcoming 2.2 version seems to do just that.
Another area Android needs work on is user interface the iPhone is renown for its simple and intuitive way of navigating the menus and everything in the phone, while Android at times can seem cluttered (at least compared to the iPhone).
While Android’s app marketplace is growing in both volume and quality, the way of purchasing apps and managing them is cumbersome, and some streamlining is required to make it easier for users to get apps, and generally improve the way the App Marketplace works.

How Google Will Defeat Microsoft (w/FOSS & GNU/Linux)

The Motley Fool - The Chrome operating system may be bigger than you think. Right now, everyone is underestimating Google’s chances to take on the Windows beast, but does anyone remember where Google’s Android(also Linux-based) was a year ago? Me - Here’s looking forward to Freedom and Humans Enabled with Technology!

…I’m not singling out one commenter. I’m sure a lot of us felt that way last July, before Android phones went on to outpace the sales growth of Apple’s (Nasdaq: AAPL) mighty iPhones. If Android has succeeded against the iPhone juggernaut, why doesn’t Google stand a chance against a beleaguered Windows platform?
Apple’s Mac OS, IBM’s (NYSE: IBM) Warp, and even a couple of Linux varieties haven’t made much of a dent against Microsoft over the years, but that is because PC owners were tied to programs that ran only on Windows.
The climate’s kinder these days, with Google Docs and other cloud computing apps besieging Microsoft’s Office stronghold. Power users are unlikely to abandon Windows, but for the vast majority of consumers who need computers solely for web browsing, reading email, and some light word processing and web-based gaming, why not Chrome OS?
Once again, I’m left hard pressed to justify how Microsoft will be more relevant in a couple of years than it is right now.
Google OS won’t be a…
