…This morning Google officially unveiled App Inventor for Android, giving non-developer Android users the ability to build their own applications using a visual, puzzle-like interface. I’ve been playing around with the tool all morning (more on that soon), and noticed that one set of Components allows users to seamlessly integrate Twitter functionality. As far as I can tell this is the only third-party service that’s currently included, but Google tells us that it will eventually offer a Component Developer Kit, giving third party developers the ability to integrate their services as well. And that could be a very big deal.
For those that haven’t seen it in action, building an application in App Inventor involves putting together puzzle pieces called Components. Want to do something when the user taps on a Button? Use the Button.Click component. Want to change the color of something to Red? There’s a component for that too. There are also over twenty Twitter-related components, which let you integrate…

No matter what city you are living in, finding a parking spot can be a real frustration and time waster.

mSpot Beats Google to Cloud-Based Music Service

Putting our music collections in the cloud would be a wonderful thing. So wonderful, even, that Google and Apple have been working on doing just that for months. But why wait? mSpot’s letting you Android users do it now.

…Putting our music collections in the cloud would be a wonderful thing. So wonderful, even, that Google and Apple have been working on doing just that for months. But why wait? mSpot’s letting you Android users do it now.
mSpot has been streaming movies to all four major carriers for some time, but today they announced that they were jumping to the front of the line for cloud-based music on Android handsets.
Here’s how it works: any unencrypted music files you own are stored in the cloud, to be played back at any time on your Android phone or PC. The first 2GB you upload are free, while 10GB will cost you $3.00/month and 100GB (a whopping 80,000 songs) will go for $14.00/month.
The catch is that mSpot doesn’t have a deal in place with the major record labels, who may be a bit nonplussed to see their content spread widely without additional royalties. But until they make a legal case of it and until Google and Apple finally release their own services mSpot will remain the biggest cloud-based music game in town….

Android still has the advantage over Apples iOS4 and iPhone

Google’s Android platform can easily top Apple’s new iOS 4 and the iPhone 4.

…T, users are stuck with the carrier. And dropped calls. Android phones on the other hand, are available on virtually every major network in the US and the rest of the World.
What Android needs to improve to keep its momentum
Android isn’t perfect, and while it’s capable of beating the iPhone 4, it’ll need to improve on a number of areas. Firstly, Android needs to even out the bumps it has suffered along the road, and the upcoming 2.2 version seems to do just that.
Another area Android needs work on is user interface the iPhone is renown for its simple and intuitive way of navigating the menus and everything in the phone, while Android at times can seem cluttered (at least compared to the iPhone).
While Android’s app marketplace is growing in both volume and quality, the way of purchasing apps and managing them is cumbersome, and some streamlining is required to make it easier for users to get apps, and generally improve the way the App Marketplace works.
Media. The iPhone has a wonderful iPod and movie…

Analysts Warn Of Mass Defections From BlackBerry, Nokia

Analysts today warned that Nokia and RIM were about to see their market share plunge in the near future thanks to Apple and Google. Goldman Sachs’ Simona Jankowski pointed to checks at retail that showed BlackBerries were no longer the top-selling phones at US carriers outside of AT&T

…You all act like selling through fewer carriers or using less models of phones gives you some kind of prize.

You get no prize for it.

When RIM has sold its best ever quarter - the correct response, is congratulations.

That’s not a failure, but a success.

Still we know RIM and Nokia, crystal balling it, have some competitive weaknesses, and their sales are coming downmarket.

Is apple kicking butt? Yes. But Apple isn’t the story… Apple won’t go downmarket, where frankly at this point Nokia and RIM are increasingly cornered…its how fast Android leaves its North American base, and how well it kicks RIM and Nokia in countries like Brazil, India, Malaysia, etc….thats the story…if it materializes.

outside the U.S. though, RIM sales are still strong, Nokia’s sales of low end/cheap smartphones where their real competition is still Chinese knockoffs…it remains strong, Nokia is considered a premium brand over the generic chinese knockoff….

…Apple insisted developers to submit their iOS 4 applications as soon as possible, so they will be ready when iOS 4 is released to the public on June 21! But now read this: According to TechCrunch, developers of non-iOS-4 applications are supposedly experiencing longer approval times to get their products into Apple’s App Store to begin with.
Apple has got its 10,000th native iPad application, doubling the size of the iPad App Store in just over six weeks. The landmark itself comes just two months after the release of the tablet device, though it’s but a small part of the total number of apps available for both Apple’s iPad and iPhone: more than 200,000.
As well, the company has started accepting offerings for iOS 4-compatible apps, the next iteration of the iPhone and iPad operating system is currently planned for a June 21 release, hitting devices but three days before the launch of Apple’s newest product, the iPhone 4.
