Hidden among the bar code readers, music players and games in the marketplace for Android software may be apps that could steal your online banking banking credentials or infect your phone. Google removed about 1 percent of the apps posted to the Android Market last year, according to a 2009 filing Google made to the FTC.
…This should come as no surprise as malware is bound to show up eventually in any open source environment. There are ways around it and this certainly will not be the doom of Android. What cracks me up is the fanboys on both sides of this ridiculous iPhone/Android war. Android would probably not exist (yet) were it not for the success of the iPhone. At the same time, Apple would probably be slower to bring upgrades to market were it not for the proliferation of Android devices. The competition is a good thing. It drives progress and the consumer ultimately wins by having a wide variety of quality devices to choose from. As the devices get better and the manufacturers take more control away from the telcos the consumer wins again. As an iPhone owner I want to see some Android phones come to market that totally blow away the iPhone! I want the Android Market to gain market share as quickly as possible and provide real competition to Apple. We all win….
