…Here’s a little math for you. If Google and partners ship 60,000 Android handsets every day (which is pretty much the most interesting thing Google CEO Eric Schmidt has said here at the Mobile World Congress), it means they’re shipping 21.9 million every year.Now add in the fact that Android shipments (says Schmidt) have almost doubled in the last quarter, and assume some further growth, and it’s not very far-fetched to put Androids in front of the iPhone at the end of 2010 (if you remember, Apple sold 8.7 million iPhones last quarter, and 7.4 million in the quarter before).It also puts a different perspective on Google’s meager Nexus One sales. Yes, Google isn’t selling that many of its Android phone, but it still controls the Android platform, which makes it one of the most important players in the mobile world today. What’s better: Having a very popular phone or a very popular mobile platform? If Android sales keep growing this fast, Google might be very happy it went with the second option.Print…
